In 2006 we were asked by a local village community to manage an unused Hall offered to them, for rent, by the Salvation Army with the option to buy the building when possible.
We have been able to run the Hall as a community centre for 5 years using local volunteers whilst fundraising was ongoing towards the purchase which was completed in April 2011. We are now raising funds to refurbish and develop the use of the building. The facilities there will complement our base at Denby Dale and will allow us to extend and diversify our programmes across the Denby Dale and Kirkburton wards.
Activities currently undertaken in the Hub include:
- Afternoon Tea dances
- Over 55 Friendship group
- Youth Club
- Local History Drop-in
- Internet access and IT skills training
- Community and private functions
- Fund and profile raising Concerts and
- The Hall is used by the local Anglican Church (whose building cannot be modified) for informal worship and social activities and is also the local polling station and the local rest station in case of an emergency
